The Valensole lavender flowers from mid-June to mid-July, not before. That is the only calendar constraint on this trip. The rest of the year the gorges are worth the journey on their own — and far quieter.

The Route des Crêtes runs along the canyon with considerable drops. Tell us: there is a southern alternative, far less exposed, which still reaches the lake and Moustiers.
